Former Lions, Eskimos QB Danny O’Brien retires

Former B.C. Lions and Edmonton Eskimos quarterback Danny O’Brien has retired.

The 29-year-old signed with the Lions after the Esks released him in June. O’Brien started three games for B.C. at the end of the season. However, Ed Hervey informed O’Brien he was not in the Lions’ plans moving forward.

O’Brien completed 15-of-26 passes for 93 yards in Edmonton’s two pre-season games before he was let go by the the Eskimos. The six-foot-three, 220-pound pivot spent the 2017 and 2018 seasons in Edmonton.

The Minneapolis native came into the league with Ottawa in 2014 and spent three seasons with the Redblacks. He suited up for 99 career games completing 100-of-175 passes for 1,045 yards with three touchdowns against 10 interceptions and rushed 31 times for 87 yards and three touchdowns.

O’Brien will try and get into coaching the game of football either in the CFL of NCAA.
