Mike Benevides might be making a return to the sidelines.

Benevides has been linked to the B.C. Lions coaching staff. According to The Province reporter, Ed Willes: former Lions head coach Mike Benevides has surfaced as the defensive co-ordinator.

The 51-year-old spent the 2019 season as an analyst for TSN. He provided digestible insight and added a unique perspective to the CFL broadcasts.

Benevides had been the Edmonton Eskimos assistant head coach and defensive co-ordinator since Jason Maas took over as Esks head coach in 2016. That was until Edmonton let the 50-year-old go due to the football operations cap after the 2018 season.

Prior to joining the Eskimos, Benevides spent three seasons as head coach of the B.C. Lions (2012-14), compiling a 33-21 win-loss record. He has a mostly defensive background with time spent as a special teams coordinator as well. Benevides has three Grey Cup rings as a coach.
