Slam Dunk CFL picks: blackout your bank account

Bank accounts for CFL bettors should have been in the black after CFL Semi-Final Sunday.

Winnipeg winning outright as 5.5-point underdogs made for a productive play day.

The Bomb squad are getting points in the prairies while the Steeltown tough Ticats are heavy metal favourites at Tim Hortons Field.

Eastern Final
Edmonton Eskimos at Hamilton Tiger-Cats

Sunday, November 17, 1 p.m. EST

The Tabbies are hummin’ at home. Hamilton has a massive advantage with a sold out , blackout crowd filling the stadium in the Hammer.

Quarterback Dane Evans might be making his first playoff start but he’s played and performed under the bright lights. Evans threw for 613 yards, five touchdowns against one interception while completing over 70 percent of his passes in two games — both wins — versus Edmonton during the regular season.

Trevor Harris had to play near perfect football in Montreal to advance and earn a trip east again. But he needs some help from the running game, defence and specials teams otherwise it could be a quiet ride back home. Discipline has been an issue for the Eskimos and with a rowdy crowd expected it could exacerbate the issue.

Line: Ticats favoured by 6 points
Pick: Hamilton
Bet: $22 spread bet returns $20

Western Final
Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Saskatchewan Roughriders

Sunday, November 17, 4:30 p.m. EST

Chris Streveler’s warrior mentality has spread to his Bombers’ teammates. Streveler was frozen in various areas just to be able to put the pads on in Calgary, but he never winced or displayed any signs of pain while leading Winnipeg in rushing during the West Semi-Final victory against the Stamps.

The combination of Zach Collaros passing abilities and Streveler’s run game presence has been a productive pairing for the Bombers. Paul LaPolice has switched from each quarterback seamlessly, diagraming plays for the strengths of his respective signal callers. Collaros and Streveler have embraced the shared role and quickly developed a brotherly bond.

Winnipeg has two quarterbacks; Saskatchewan wants just one healthy. Cody Fajardo’s back/oblique injury has become an obsession in the prairies, rightfully so. The Riders’ fortunes rest of the health and ability of their franchise QB. If Fajardo uses the same pain-numbing antidote as Streveler perhaps the green and white can compete.

Line: Riders favoured by 3 points
Pick: Winnipeg
Bet: $33 spread bet returns $30; $30 money line bet returns $42

Playoff record against the spread: 1-1
Playoff record on the money line: 1-0
