The 2017 Most Outstanding Rookie has battled injury and offensive ineptitude to a career worst 444 rushing yards on just 88 carries, adding 46 receptions for 406 yards and five total touchdowns. At various times throughout the season he’s been replaced by Brandon Burks, currently on the six-game injured list, or lost carries in favour of return man Chris Rainey, who is joining Wilder on the one-game.
AJ Ouellette was part of an electric backfield trio at the University of Ohio, rushing for 1,306 yards and 12 touchdowns in his senior season beside 2020 CFL Draft prospect quarterback Nathan Rourke and Hamilton’s 2019 third round pick Maleek Irons, who rushed for 1047 and 848 yards respectively. He saw his first CFL action last week with four carries for 20 yards in a reserve role against Montreal.
With the season result decided, the Toronto Argonauts are taking full advantage of the final two weeks of the season to evaluate players for the future.
