Riders receiver Shaq Evans is feelin’ himself.
“I feel like I’m one of the best players in this league and definitely feel like I’m the best receiver in this league because I’m consistently making big plays all year and I’ve come up big in clutch situations or when we need a first down,” Evans said on The Waggle podcast.
“So I think that factors into being one of the best players: making plays when you’re supposed to make them and when your team needs them. I’ve shown that I can do that this year.”
Evans currently ranks fifth in receiving yards (1,146), tied fifth in touchdown grabs (5), 12th in catches (65), first among qualified and the top 50 pass catchers in the CFL with a 17.6 yards per reception average. Saskatchewan quarterback Cody Fajardo agrees with his No. 1 target being the best in the three-down game.
There are a number of other players who are going take issue with Evans’ claim: Bryan Burnham, Brandon Banks, Reggie Begelton, Bralon Addison, Greg Ellingson, Derel Walker, Eric Rogers and S.J. Green. It’s a stacked position in the CFL with many have strong cases for the best in the league label.
Some like Burnham go about their business in a quiet way, but Evans has chosen to let the people know vocally.
