C.J. Gable won’t be in the lineup for the Eskimos on Saturday for their crucial Week 18 game against the B.C. Lions, Edmonton Sun reporter Gerry Moddejonge has confirmed.
Gable suffered a knee injury against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in Week 17.
Through 14 games, Gable has 997 rushing yards, second most in the league, and two touchdowns on 204 carries (4.9 yards per carry) while catching 54 passes for 421 yards and one major. He’s three yards away from his second consecutive 1,000-yard season.
The 31-year-old played 16 games for Edmonton in 2018 producing 1,063 yards and seven touchdowns on the ground while hauling in 32 balls for 212 yards and one major.
Second year back Shaq Cooper draws in to the lineup making his second start of the season. The 26-year-old rushed for 128 yards and one touchdown on 22 carries with five receptions for 48 yards in Week 7 versus the Toronto Argonauts when Gable was sidelined.
Cooper recorded 25 carries for 144 yards and six grabs for 44 yards and one touchdown in two games a year ago. He could be the Eskimos running back of the future.
