The CFL’s reigning Most Outstanding Player was pulled off Calgary’s six-game injured list on Thursday and he’s listed as the starter for the Stamps’ Labour Day game versus the Edmonton Eskimos.
Mitchell had been out since Week 3 when he suffered a pectoral injury against the B.C. Lions. The 29-year-old has completed 46-of-73 pass attempts for 527 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions in a pair of starts this season.
Calgary saved over $100,000 on the salary cap while Mitchell recovered from his setback. He hoped to return to the field pain-free, which is why the Stamps were cautious with Mitchell.
Nick Arbuckle went 4-3 as the Stamps’ starter in place of Mitchell and led the fourth quarter comeback victory again B.C. During eight games so far, Arbuckle has throw for 2,103 yards, 11 touchdowns against five interceptions while completing 73 per cent of his passes.
The Stampeders (5-4) host the Edmonton Eskimos (6-4) for the annual Labour Day Classic on Monday.
