Mitchell made five catches for 32 yards in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers first pre-season game against the Pittsburgh Steelers prior to the setback.
Mitchell was released by the Arizona Cardinals on May 10 after signing a futures contract in January. Less than a week later he found a new NFL team. The 26-year-old worked out for the Cardinals, Detroit Lions, New York Jets and New York Giants in December.
Mitchell had his best CFL season in 2018 playing 11 games recording 60 catches for 867 yards and three touchdowns. Over three seasons on Edmonton, the 26-year-old made 97 receptions for 1,418 yards and six touchdowns. He went unselected in the 2015 NFL draft.
A young, intriguing receiver is hit with a devastating injury.
