Argos RB James Wilder Jr. won’t play against Bombers

Argos running back James Wilder Jr. won’t be suiting up against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in Week 8, according to head coach Corey Chamblin.

“James, he definitely has the heart and he’s ready and willing to practice, but I think he’s at the point to where another week we’ll definitely help him coming back from a bye week and us getting a healthy running back,” Chamblin said.

Toronto placed Wilder Jr. on the one-game injured list prior to the double blue’s Week 7 loss to Edmonton. Wilder Jr. has started five games at running back for the Argos in 2019 producing 161 rushing yards on 38 carries and hauling in 26 passes for 260 yards and two touchdowns.

Brandon Burks stepped in for Wilder Jr against the Eskimos running the ball nine times for 42 yards. The 25-year-old has recorded 63 carries for 370 yards (5.9 yards per carry) and 18 catches for 125 yards and one touchdown in 10 career CFL games.

The Argos are still trying for their first win of the season, currently last in the league with an 0-6 record. Toronto takes on the best team in the Wes without Wilder Jr. who is missing his second straight game with a rib issue.
