The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have signed national receivers Malcolm Williams and Alex Morrison.

Williams spent two seasons with the Toronto Argonauts in 2017 and 2018, playing 24 games making 27 catches for 266 yards. The six-foot-three, 221-pound pass catcher has a big frame. Prior to signing with the Argos, Williams played three seasons in the Canadian Junior Football League for the Langley Rams.

Morrison was selected in the fourth round, 29th overall of the 2017 CFL draft by the Montreal Alouettes. He played his final year at the University of British Columbia in 2017 and missed the 2018 season due to injury. The 26-year-old stands six-foot-four, 220 pounds.

The Bombers have been starting two Canadian receivers to begin the 2019 season. Nic Demski left Winnipeg’s Week 6 win over Ottawa in the first quarter and did not return. Drew Wolitarsky has been steady at the field receiver spot and Daniel Petermann is catching the ball when called upon. But the Bombers felt more depth was required as 3DownNation’s John Hodge reports.

The additions were not made in light of the injury to Demski, who shouldn’t be out long (if at all). It’s purely for depth. Remember — the Bombers wanted Rashaun Simonise to stick around on the practice roster when he bolted to the Lions.
