The status of Winnipeg Blue Bombers star linebacker Adam Bighill is unknown for Week 5 even thought he’s on the roster.

“We’ll see, I think it’ll come right down to the game. I don’t think he needs to practice to play,” head coach Mike O’Shea said.

Bighill has not practiced all week in Winnipeg, but he did participate twice last week, although the Bombers held him out of the lineup in Ottawa as the team improved to 3-0 in Week 4. O’Shea wanted to give Bighill a little more time and kept him on the sideline in the nation’s capital.

Toronto is the worst team in the league and resting Bighill versus a weaker opponent could prove prudent over the long season.

The 30-year-old signed a three-year contract extension in January that paid him a signing bonus of $105,000 included in $230,000 of hard money in the first season. There is a massive $750,000-plus in hard money over the length of the agreement.

Last season Bighill made 105 tackles, forced four fumbles, recorded four sacks and snagged two interceptions, one returned for a touchdown, earning him the CFL Most Outstanding Defensive Player Award.
