The pickings are much more inviting for Week 4 in the CFL.

Last week there was a lot of heavy favourites – some in the double digits – which prompted a throw away and live to bet another day. If it doesn’t feel right don’t force it.

The are intriguing lines to use for our advantage.

Hamilton Tiger-Cats at Montreal Alouettes
Thursday, July 4, 7:30 p.m. EST

The Ticats were on the wrong end of the turnover margin in Week 3, but Hamilton still put up 41 and easily covered. Jeremiah Masoli threw three interceptions on drives that could have produced points and Lirim Hajrullahu missed a 46-yard field goal. Easily 50 or even another 60-point performance happens without those miscues.

Montreal struggled to move the ball against a stout Ticats defence which registered six sacks. Hamilton is better in all three phases, extremely evident during the front end of the home-and-home set. Home field advantage means nothing for the Alouettes posting a 2-7 mark worst in the entire league last season.

Line: Ticats favoured by 13 points
Pick: Hamilton
Bet: $22 spread bet returns $20

Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Ottawa Redblacks
Friday, July 5, 7:30 p.m. EST

Adam Bighill being out of the lineup might be big news, but it didn’t change the line at all. Winnipeg has built enough depth to withstand injuries when they pop up. The Bombers defence is definitely better with Biggie on the field. Even without the 2018 Most Outstanding Defensive Player, Winnipeg is the play.

Line: Redblacks favoured by 3.5 points
Pick: Winnipeg
Bet: $22 spread bet returns $20

B.C. Lions at Toronto Argonauts
Saturday, July 6, 7 p.m. EST

Everyone is going to be on B.C. and rightfully so.

The Lions had the defending Grey Cup champs on the ropes and let them off. Toronto has been outscored 96-21 in two games. The Argos were beat by 50 in game one but cut the losing margin in half – 25 – for their second outing. If the same holds true in The Six on Saturday, the boatmen lose by 12 or 13. That’s a winner for B.C.

Line: Lions favoured by 7.5 points
Pick: B.C.
Bet: $22 spread bet returns $20

Calgary Stampeders at Saskatchewan Roughriders
Saturday, July 6, 7 p.m. EST

It’s rare to see the Stampeders as underdogs.

As the odds stack up against Bo Levi Mitchell playing in Saskatchewan, the line has risen from three to four points. That means the linemakers feel Mitchell is worth at least one point – significant in the betting world.

Whether Mitchell plays remains to be seen, but regardless the value lies with Calgary.

Line: Riders favoured by 4 points
Pick: Calgary
Bet: $22 spread bet returns $20

Season record against the spread: 3-4
