Winnipeg Blue Bombers linebacker Adam Bighill won’t play against the Ottawa Redblacks in Week 4.

Bighill practiced on Monday, took Tuesday off and returned Wednesday, but he’ll watch his defence play in the nation’s capital. He suited up in Winnipeg’s first two games of the season making six tackles.

“He practised day three and as you go through it he was able to run around out there – it’s probably the best decision is to give him a little more time. He probably didn’t have that final gear that he probably needs,” Bombers head coach Mike O’Shea said.

“He’s a tough guy, it is early, I’m sure he would’ve [played if it was a playoff game.”

The 30-year-old signed a three-year contract extension in January that paid him a signing bonus of $105,000 included in $230,000 of hard money in the first season. There is a massive $750,000-plus in hard money over the length of the agreement.

Last season Bighill made 105 tackles, forced four fumbles, recorded four sacks and snagged two interceptions, one returned for a touchdown, earning him the CFL Most Outstanding Defensive Player Award.
