Cody Fajardo will start at quarterback for the Saskatchewan Roughriders in Week 2 against the Ottawa Redblacks, according to head coach Craig Dickenson.
“We’re going to start Cody and give him that opportunity to get out there and go,” Dickenson said.
“He’s done a good job all week, but Harker’s going to play so we’ll see how it goes. We’ll have a specific plan for when he goes in, but a lot of it’s feel, especially in the second half. We’ll try to get him some work early in the game and see how he does and the second half we’re trying to win the game, so whoever is hot at that point.”
Fajardo entered the Riders’ Week 1 game after Zach Collaros took a shoulder to the head from Ticats linebacker Simoni Lawrence. He completed 9-of-17 passes for 66 yards and rushed seven times for 34 yards with one touchdown against Hamilton. The rookie Harker hit on 8-of-14 throws for 128 yards while two were intercepted.
Fajardo was signed by general manager Jeremy O’Day during free agency and clearly won the backup job in training camp.
