Former Stampeders DL Freddie Bishop signs with AAF team

Former Calgary Stampeders defensive lineman Freddie Bishop has signed with the Memphis Express of the Alliance of American Football.

Bishop played the three seasons with the Stamps from 2013 to 2015 making 60 tackles and 14 sacks while winning a Grey Cup in 2014. The 28-year-old was drawing CFL interest, but opted for the AAF to try and earn another shot in the NFL.

Bishop went unselected in the 2013 NFL draft. The Detroit Lions brought him in for a brief stint prior to him signing in Calgary that July. After flourishing in the CFL, the New York Jets signed Bishop in 2016 and he spent two seasons in the Big Apple recording 19 total tackles and one fumble recovery in nine games. The Lions had Bishop in for training camp during August 2018, but he was let go among final cuts.

Bishop could be an impact pass rusher if he ever makes it back to the CFL.
