The University of Guelph has named Ryan Sheahan head coach of the football program.

Sheahan has spent the past four seasons as the assistant head coach and offensive coordinator at the University of Calgary. Previously, he spent six years at his alma mater Queen’s University serving as offensive coordinator in 2013 and 2014. Sheahan spent the 2012 season as the Hamilton Tiger-Cats running backs coach under George Cortez.

Sheahan is most known for directing an offence at Calgary that has produced two Hec Crighton winners at the quarterback position: Andrew Buckley and Adam Sinagra. During the 2018 season, Sinagra threw for a USports single-season record 3,233 under Sheahan’s guidance. Sheahan was integral in developing Sinagra into an elite USports pivot.

Sheahan takes over a Gryphons team that reached the Yates Cup in 2018, but fell decisively to the Western University Mustangs.
