CALGARY – Adam Sinagra is closing in on history.
The Calgary Dinos quarterback threw two touchdowns and 428 yards in the air as Calgary (7-0) trounced the (1-6) Regina Rams 58-6 in U Sports football action Friday. With the performance, Sinagra sits at 2878 passing yards on the year, 308 back of Noah Picton’s single-season record of 3186 set in 2016.
Sinagra will have a chance to overtake Picton as the undefeated Dinos, who have clinched first place in Canada West, head to Edmonton to take on the Alberta Golden Bears in their final game of the season on Oct. 27.
Fellow Calgary QBs Justin Julien and Josiah Joseph had one and two touchdowns, respectively, while Tyson Philpot (191), Dallas Boath (126) and Hunter Karl (110) all had more than a 100 yards receiving. Boath caught two TDs and Philpot had one.
Sinagra’s counterpart, Josh Donnelly, was picked off twice and threw for 243 yards for the lowly Rams, who were forced to forfeit three wins earlier this week due to an ineligible player.
Regina’s Ryan Schienbein had nine catches for 119 yards receiving.
Calgary opened up a 16-3 lead after the first quarter following two field goals from Niko DiFonte, who finished 4 of 5 on kicks, and a 75-yard touchdown pass from Sinagra to Boath.
The Dinos never trailed in the game and the Rams only managed to score on two field goals from Aldo Galvan, who got them on the board at 5:17 of the first frame and knocked in another to make it 16-6 at 9:26 of the second. Calgary proceeded to score 42 unanswered points.
The Dinos opened their season with a 49-35 victory over the Rams in Regina on Aug. 31.
