USports roundup: Laval prevails over Montreal in overtime, stay undefeated

LAVAL, Que. – David Cote kicked a 12-yard field goal in overtime and the Laval Rouge et Or stayed undefeated on the USports football season with an 18-15 win over the Montreal Carabins on Sunday.

The field goal was Cote’s third of the game. He also came through from 42 yards in the first quarter and 20 in the fourth.

Hugo Richard completed 26-of-39 pass attempts for 312 yards and a touchdown. But the Laval (6-0) quarterback was also intercepted twice.

Montreal (4-2) had tied the game on a 49-yard field goal from L.P. Simoneau at 13:02 of the fourth quarter. He also had a field goal from 27 yards out.

Marc Dequoy ran in a 54-yard fumble return for a touchdown in the third quarter for the Carabins.

Both teams scored on a safety.

HALIFAX – Adrian Green returned a fumble for a touchdown and Brian Hope kicked three field goals to lead the Saint Mary’s Huskies to an 18-9 victory over the Bishop’s Gaiters on Saturday in USports football action.

It was a rough day for Saint Mary’s quarterback Kaleb Scott, who had two interceptions while completing just 15-of-36 pass attempts.

The Huskies (6-0) trailed 9-7 at the half but scored 11 unanswered points on Hope’s three field goals – from 44, 20 and 30 yards out – and a safety.

Aarron Franklin returned an interception for a touchdown for Bishop’s (0-6). The Gaiters also scored on a safety.

Bishop’s quarterback Stephen Casey was 18-for-34 for 214 yards.

HAMILTON – Jordan Lyons rushed for 71 yards and a touchdown as the McMaster Marauders held on for a 27-24 win over the Queen’s Gaels on Friday in Canadian university football action.

Kicker Adam Preocanin led the McMaster (4-2) offence as they built a 27-16 lead by the 6:05 mark of the fourth quarter. He had three field goals and two conversions.

Quarterback Andreas Dueck completed 22-of-29 passes for 358 yards.

Rasheed Tucker rumbled in for a three-yard touchdown with 2:47 on the clock and Matteo Del Brocco caught a two-point conversion as Queen’s (3-4) made it a three-point game.

Gaels QB Nate Hobbs connected on 28-of-51 pass attempts for 431 yards.


OTTAWA – Quarterback Connor Carusello completed 21-of-31 passes for 453 yards and four touchdowns to power Laurier (3-3) past Carleton (4-3). Michael Arruda threw three TD strikes on 21-of-34 passing and 373 yards for the Ravens.


WOLFVILLE, N.S. – Keiran Burnham kicked his fourth field goal in the final minute of play to lift St. F-X (4-2) over Acadia (2-3). QB Hunter Guenard led the Axemen with 185 passing yards and two TDs.


SHERBROOKE, Que. – Louis Tardif kicked a rouge with seven seconds left to play as the Vert et Or (1-5) slipped past McGill. Findlay Brown’s 32-yard field goal had tied the game for the Redmen (1-4) with 1:37 left in the final quarter.
