The Saskatchewan Roughriders played one man short in losing to the Edmonton Eskimos.
The Riders accidentally submitted a game sheet with strong-side linebacker Derrick Moncrief’s name on it, but he’s currently on the six-game injured list. Former NFLer Matt Elam was the replacement and tabbed to be active but not on the paperwork. So the Riders had to scratch Elam and make other lineup changes.
“We went through it, we checked it three or four times and he had four or five copies of what he turned in and unfortunately he turned in the wrong one,” Saskatchewan head coach Chris Jones said.
“It’s the second time actually that’s ever happened. The protocols you have to go through…we’ve got three different people that are to check it and unfortunately the wrong one was taken to the CFL.”
The Riders were left without any alternative except to scratch Elam and take on the Eskimos down one player. Mike Edem slid down to play strong-side linebacker, Marc-Oliver Brouillette went to safety, but he got hurt on the first play of the game and Tobi Antigha took over.
All that switching just because a simple task was unable to be carried out properly.
