Alouettes QB Drew Willy to get the start against Stamps

According to Didier Orméjuste of RDS, Montreal Alouettes quarterback Jeff Mathews will miss four-to-six weeks with a foot injury meaning Drew Willy will get the start against the Calgary Stampeders on Saturday.

Mathews completed 18 of 30 throws for 280 yards in a 28-18 loss to the Ottawa Redblacks on July 6, Montreal’s last game before the bye week. Willy  started the season as Montreal’s No. 1 quarterback and has a 1-and-2 record but he’s also been sacked a CFL-leading 10 times.

The decision to go with Willy means that Vernon Adams will serve as the back up for the second straight week after signing with the club on June 26.

Update: scratch that.

The Calgary Stampeders are 4-0 and are allowing an average of 9.5 point per game, a ridiculous number that is by far the tops in the CFL, so Montreal should be just fine.
