Ticats release QB Vernon Adams

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have released quarterback Vernon Adams.

The move ends a drawn out saga that saw Adams on the field at Ticats practice last week, just days after head coach June Jones said he would be traded – but Adams wasn’t working with the rest of the pivots, instead, running routes with the receivers.

Adams was acquired in February after a crazy day that saw the Ticats trade for defensive end Charles Hughes from the Calgary Stampeders, then flip him to the Saskatchewan Roughriders for Adams. So the Ticats have nothing to show for trading Hughes to the Riders, which cost them a few spots in the fourth round of this year’s draft and a fourth rounder next year.

The team also announced the release of receiver Bryce Wilkerson – a sign Terrence Toliver might be ready to return – and long snapper Kevin Malcolm, who became expendable when the team signed Tanner Doll earlier this week.
