The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have added quarterback Mitchell Gale.
The 28-year-old has spent time with the Argos, Ticats, Riders, Stampeders and Lions since coming into the CFL in 2013.
Gale made his first three career starts with the Riders in 2016 when Saskatchewan starter Darian Durant went down with an injury in July that season. In his first career start, the six-foot-one, 225-pound passer threw for 354 yards against Ottawa, leading the Riders to a win.
Over five CFL seasons, Gale has completed 88-of-158 passes (55 per cent) for 1,050 yards with four touchdowns and three interceptions while rushing 53 times for 153 yards and two touchdowns.
The Bombers No. 1 quarterback Matt Nichols is out four-to-six weeks with a knee injury. Chris Streveler started Winnipeg’s season-opener against Edmonton, completing 15-of-28 passes for 178 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions in the 33-30 loss. Alex Ross appeared to hurt himself while holding for Justin Medlock. Bryan Bennett is the other pivot on the roster.
