Eskimos release QB Eli Jenkins

Edmonton has released quarterback Eli Jenkins.

The 23-year-old was 2-of-3 for nine yards with two rushes for 18 yards in the Eskimos two pre-season games.

The Eskimos signed Jenkins last December.

Jenkins was signed by the Los Angeles Chargers as an undrafted free agent in 2017, but the six-foot-two, 210-pounder was released before training camp after the bolts acquired quarterback Cardale Jones from the Buffalo Bills.

The 23-year-old played NCAA football at Jacksonville State where he was a dual-threat quarterback. Jenkins finished his four-year university career completing 56.5 per cent of his passes for 7,652 passing yards and 47 touchdowns against 27 interceptions while adding 3,796 rushing yards and 42 touchdowns.

Edmonton has four quarterbacks remaining on the roster: Mike Reilly, Kevin Glenn, Zach Kline and Danny O’Brien.
