Jovan Santos-Knox and Ian Wild appear to be the favourites to man the weakside and middle linebacker spots for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2018.
“Between Jovan Santos-Knox and Ian Wild you’ve got two players who have both played the MAC and the WILL linebacker positions and both had success, particularly Jovan in the latter half of last year and Ian the prior year before his hand injury,” Bombers general manager Kyle Walters said.
The rest of the linebackers on Winnipeg’s roster are either newcomers to the CFL, former NFLer Quentin Gause, Jevaris Jones, Chinedu Oparaku or have gotten a little taste of three-down football, Kyrie Wilson.
“Obviously when you see the depth chart you can see the guys returning. You can see where certain positions have a little bit more uncertainty compared to the other ones. Our linebacker spot would be one of those,” Walters said.
“Mini-camp where we get to take a look at some of the young guys we’ve signed and see them in person, running around and bringing back a couple guys who we had on the practice roster throughout last year as well, we’re excited to see how these guys look in mini-camp and all throughout training camp.”
