Argos head coach Marc Trestman has finalized his staff for the 2018 CFL season.
3DownNation has reported many of the major changes including Tommy Condell moving to offensive coordinator, Mike Archer taking over for Corey Chamblin as defensive coordinator and Anthony Calvillo joining the staff as quarterbacks coach.
Calvillo spent the last three seasons as part of the Montreal Alouettes coaching staff, fulfilling a number of roles on the offensive side of the ball, including offensive coordinator, receivers coach, and quarterbacks coach. He most recently was Montreal’s quarterbacks coach in 2017.
As a player, Calvillo dressed for 329 games across 19 CFL seasons with the Las Vegas Posse, Hamilton Tiger-Cats, and Montreal Alouettes. He won three Grey Cups in Montreal, two of which came back-to-back alongside Argos head coach Marc Trestman and general manager Jim Popp in 2009 and 2010. Calvillo earned CFL All-Star honours five times with Montreal and was named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Player on three occasions (2003, 2008, 2009). The league’s all-time leader in almost every major passing category, including passing yards (79,816), passing touchdowns (455), and completions (5,892), became professional football’s all-time leading passer in 2011.
Tyron Brackenridge moves from assistant defensive backs coach to defensive backs coach. Greg Quick comes on as linebackers coach and Kevin Eiben returns as special teams coordinator. Jonathan Himebauch will be there from the start of the season, he came on as the offensive line coach in September 2017 and many feel he helped spur on Jame Wilder Jr.’s strong finish last season.
Marcus Brady, the Argos offensive coordinator for the last five seasons, was hired as the assistant quarterbacks coach with the Indianapolis Colts in February. Corey Chamblin has taken a leave of absence from the team. Both reported by 3DownNation.
