New B.C. Lions president expects David Braley to own team for ‘next two years’

Rick LeLacheur is under the impression that David Braley will own the Lions for a couple more seasons.

“David has told me that he is not going to sell the Lions for sure this year and maybe not even next year. And I came here on the basis of David and Wally [Buono] figuring they needed a president and I still had some fire in my belly for the CFL. I’m looking at David Braley owning the team, particularly for the next two years,” LeLacheur told TSN 1040 in Vancouver.

“At some point, he’s going to sell it, there’s no question. There’s lots of quality people and corporations here that could be terrific owners going forward after David decides to sell.”

The 76-year-old Braley bought the bankrupt franchise in 1996. Buono will coach one final season in 2018 and help with the transition to new general manager Ed Hervey who signed a two-year deal.
