Brandon Banks congratulates Gable, takes shot at Ticats

Hamilton Tiger-Cat receiver and pending free Brandon Banks took to Twitter on Tuesday to congratulate former teammate C.J. Gable on his contract extension with Edmonton Eskimos – and taking a veiled shot at his current team.

Gable was acquired by the Eskimos in an October trade with Hamilton for two offensive linemen off Edmonton’s negotiation list. The 30-year-old rushed for 367 yards and two touchdowns on 72 carries and caught nine balls for 99 yards and one major in four regular-season games wearing green and gold, all wins. He rushed 28 times for 154 yards and three touchdowns in two playoff games. He signed a two-year extension on Tuesday.

Banks, meanwhile, enjoyed quite the career resurgence under new head coach June Jones, who inserted him as a starting receiver and every-down offensive player for the first time in his career. The 29-year-old Banks registered 1,011 receiving yards on the season but had just 58 of those through the first eight contests. His last 10 games – which coincided will the arrival of Jones – Banks averaged over 95 yards per game.

But Banks was asked to take a pay cut before the season and there has been speculation he is unhappy with how he was treated in Hamilton and may not want to return.

Banks is set to become a free agent in February.
