This Duron Carter vs. BLM wrestling video is amazing

Duron Carter as a wrestling heel seems like destiny.

A guy named Drew Dalby has produced a little video featuring Saskatchewan Roughriders receiver Duron Carter, Calgary Stampeders quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell and head coach Dave Dickenson using Rod Pedersen’s “shut your mouth!” radio call of Carter’s pick six. It was posted to Twitter earlier this week.

This is amusing on all kinds of levels from the funny graphics to Rowdy Roddy Pedersen’s over-the-top call. But as I’m not the wrestling aficionado I once was – I did watch Wrestlemania III on pay-per-view at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium in 1987 – I asked our resident wrestling expert Josh Smith to weigh on the wrestling connotations of the video.

Here’s what he says:

I always love when the CFL and the world of professional wrestling intersect and while these things are usually pretty good, this one just doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.

We see Dave Dickenson as Vince McMahon, Bo Levi Mitchell as Kurt Angle and Duron Carter as Ric Flair. To give a little context, the original video comes from an episode of Monday Night Raw from November 19, 2001. This was the night after the Survivor Series pay-per-view when the then-WWF had defeated the Alliance of WCW and ECW to end the invasion angle. Not to bore you to death, but Vince was in the ring with Angle gloating about his victory and ending the wrestling war when to the surprise of everyone Ric Flair made his return to the WWF. In storyline, Flair had bought the shares of WWF stock from Vince’s children, Stephanie and Shane, so those two could buy ECW and WCW, respectively, and Flair was now letting Vince know that he was the new co-owner of the World Wrestling Federation. Yes, wrestling is crazy.

So knowing all that I don’t see how this video makes any sense at all. Is Carter coming down supposed to represent the surprise? Is he saying he co-owns the Stampeders? How is Dickenson in any way like Vince or Mitchell in any way like Kurt Angle? When these things are made I can usually figure out the meaning, but this one confuses me. I just don’t get it.

So while this video is amazing, it doesn’t make a lot of sense. Kind of like Duron Carter playing defensive back.
