Winnipeg Blue Bombers quarterback Matt Nichols won’t be pulling a Cam Newton – he’d likely hear about it from the coach at home.
Nichols was asked about the comments made by the Carolina Panthers quarterback who has come under scrutiny for his reaction after Charlotte Observer reporter Jourdan Rodrigue asked about wide receiver Devin Funchess’ route running. The former league MVP smiled and said, “it’s funny to hear a female talk about routes. It’s funny.”
Nichols, who leads the league in touchdown passes and quarterback rating, also smiled but for a decidedly different reason.
“My wife knows more about football than most men do and she critiques me all the time so that’s not something that would pop in my head to question, especially with the amount of women that are in sports these days,” Nichols said of wife Ali. “You can be extremely knowledgeable without having played. There are plenty of college coaches, even NFL coaches that never played a down of football in their life. You can still study and know what’s going on out there.
“She’s my toughest critic and biggest fan.”
