Ticats RB C.J. Gable to miss game vs. Lions due to injury

Hamilton Tiger-Cats running back G.J. Gable will miss Friday’s game with the B.C. Lions with a shoulder injury.

Head coach June Jones said Gable suffered the injury during last Friday’s loss to the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

“I had a long talk with him about it. I noticed late in the game, he wasn’t C.J.,” Junes said. “With those types of injuries, it’s got to heal. He feels a lot better but I think we’re going to go the other way.”

Gable has played in eight games this season and has 56 carries for 309 yards and three touchdowns while adding 24 catches for 186 yards.

“C.J.’s a good football player and I really like his heart,” Jones said. “He gives you everything he has.”

Replacing Gable will be Alex Green, who was re-signed this week after attending training camp with the club this spring.

Green, 29, signed with the Tiger-Cats on March 9, 2017, and attending training camp with the team before being released on June 17.  The 29-year-old has appeared in 29 NFL games – including four starts –with the Green Bay Packers (2011-12) and New York Jets (2013), registering 510 rushing yards on 149 attempts, and adding 21 receptions for 139 yards. He was originally selected by the Packers in the third round in the 2011 NFL Draft.

Prior to turning pro, the 6-foot-2, 220-pound native of Portland, Oregon played two seasons at the  University of Hawaii, posting the second highest rushing yardage single-season total (1,199) in school history in 2010. His time with the Warriors came just after Jones, who was head coach for nine seasons, left the program.

“I watched him play for two years because I watched all the Hawaii games. and I went back and watched the pre-season he had here and he’s a football player,” Jones said. “We’re lucky because I think C.J. and Alex can play in any league.
