Eskimos add Canadian kicker Brett Lauther

Edmonton has signed Canadian kicker Brett Lauther, per sources.

The 26-year-old was a seventh round, 53rd overall pick by the Ticats in the 2013 CFL draft. He made 6-of-10 field goals in his rookie season with a long of 40 yards. Since then Lauther has bounced around to practice rosters, one stint with the Argos and two with the Riders.

The Eskimos have used two different Canuck kickers the last two weeks. Hugh O’Neill missed two field goals – from 28 and 42 yards – in Edmonton’s 36-24 loss to Toronto during Week 13, one of which was returned 125 yards for a touchdown by Martese Jackson. The week prior, Chris Milo went three-for-four but missed from 46 yards out on a last-play attempt that would’ve tied the game and sent it to overtime in a 25-22 defeat against Calgary. Milo is back in Quebec City and scouting for Edmonton.
