Some stud national defenders made a push to be among the top 3Down Canucks of the Week, but it wasn’t enough to knock some players on the other side of the ball off the podium.
1. Andrew Buckley, quarterback, Calgary Stampeders
The Calgary Dinos product – two-time Hec Crighton winner – started the second half for Calgary and went a perfect 10-for-10 with 106 yards and one touchdown while guiding three straight drives that ended in majors. Impressive performance, regardless of Buckley’s passport.
2. Jerome Messam, running back, Calgary Stampeders
Messam followed a career-high workload effort, 28 carries against Saskatchewan, with 11 carries for 91 yards and a career-high three rushing touchdowns versus Hamilton. The horsepower seems to just be revving up in his engine.
3. Andrew Harris, running back, Winnipeg Blue Bombers
When you make an outstanding effort in a win-or-lose situation, that earns a nod from the 3Down Staff. Harris somehow kept his balance and knees and elbows off the ground long enough to get the ball over the goal line for the walk-off touchdown in a miraculous comeback. The Canadian back had 12 carries for 41 yards and two touchdowns plus nine catches for 93 yards.
