Canadian kicker Ronnie Pfeffer signs with Argos: sources

Canadian kicker Ronnie Pfeffer has signed a two-year deal with the Toronto Argonauts, per sources.

Pfeffer worked out and had offers from both the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Toronto.

He was released by the Ottawa Redblacks on Monday and worked out for Hamilton on Wednesday but the Ticats wanted to see how their kickers performed in the pre-season game on Thursday. Pfeffer worked out for the Argos on Saturday and a contract was offered after it was completed.

Pfeffer played 11 games for Toronto and Ottawa in 2015, punting 63 times for a 43.2 yard average while hitting 12 of 16 field goals (75 per cent.) A strong punter, the Argos could pair Pfeffer with fellow Canadian Lirim Hajrullahu, who excels at place-kicking, to form an all-national duo.

The move also keeps Pfeffer out of the hands of division rival Hamilton, who also lost out on American Brett Maher, who signed in Ottawa on Friday. The Ticats announced the signing of American Anthony Fera on Sunday.
