Riders sign Super Bowl champion defensive back

American defensive back Alfonzo Dennard has signed with the Riders, per sources.

Dennard was added to Saskatchewan’s negotiation list on November 2, 2016. He attended Roughriders mini-camp in late April and performed well enough to earn a contract with the green and white. The 27-year-old is in Saskatoon for training camp.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers product was drafted by the New England Patriots in the seventh round, 224th overall during the 2012 NFL draft. He played three seasons with the Pats from 2012-2014, starting 20 games and appearing in 29 total, making 90 tackles, 17 passes defended and five interceptions, taking one back 87 yards for a touchdown, and one forced fumble.

Dennard was on the Patriots team who beat the Seattle Seahawks 28-24 in Super Bowl XLIX in February 2015.
