The business of player recruitment took a back seat for the B.C. Lions Sunday when the club announced the unexpected passing of Tracy Lasorsa-Simon, wife of the club’s director of Canadian scouting and Hall of Fame receiver, Geroy Simon.
Lasorsa-Simon passed away Friday and had not been ailing, club communications director Jamie Cartmell relayed in a text message. The Lions were wrapping up their tour of U.S. tryout camps, with a scheduled workout in Seattle on Sunday, and the club is in the final stages of preparing its selection list for the May 7 Canadian college draft, with Simon and the team’s personnel department monitoring the movement of several CFL draft eligible signings in the NFL on the weekend.
That changed quickly on the weekend.
“We are devastated at the news of Tracy’s passing and we ask that you keep the entire Simon family in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time,” said coach/GM Wally Buono in a statement. “Tracy has been part of the BC Lions family for more than a decade and her loss is heart-breaking for all of us.”
