Winnipeg Blue Bombers return man Quincy McDuffie has signed with the Dallas Cowboys of the NFL according to multiple reports.
McDuffie, who was set to become a free agent next month, was released by the club on Tuesday.
The 26-year-old McDuffie led the CFL in kick return average last season (27.7 yards) while taking two kicks to the house. He also registered 236 yards on punt returns and made 23 catches for 241 yards with one touchdown. McDuffie was with the Ticats for two injury-plagued seasons, playing in just one game, before joining the Bombers as a free agent.
A number of U.S. sites referred to McDuffie as a “CFL star” which is a bit of a stretch. It speaks to the American assumption that any player who signs in the NFL from Canada must be killing it up here. What McDuffie does have – and this undoubtedly what caught the eye of the Cowboys – is ridiculous speed.
