Riders eliminated from playoff contention

The Saskatchewan Roughriders won’t be playing post-season football in 2016.

The Edmonton Eskimos 40-20 win by over the Montreal Alouettes on Monday gives the Esks 16 points on the season. While Saskatchewan can get to 16 points by winning their four remaining games, the Esks hold a 2-1 edge in the season series.

The Riders can still have an impact on the playoff picture in both divisions. Saskatchewan travels to Toronto next Saturday before hosting Montreal on Oct. 22. and both teams are still alive in the East race. They finish 2016 with a home-and-home set with the B.C. Lions which will include the last-ever game at the old Mosaic Stadium on Oct. 29.

This marks the second straight year the Riders have failed to make the playoffs after going 3-15 in 2015.
