The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have traded quarterback Drew Willy to the Toronto Argonauts for linebacker T.J. Heath, a first round draft pick in the 2017 CFL Draft and a 2018 third rounder.
Heath, who had two interceptions in Toronto’s 33-21 win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats Sunday night, was informed of the trade after the game. He had been given the game ball for his performance. It’s also his birthday.
In a separate move, the Bombers have acquired quarterback Kevin Glenn from the Montreal Alouettes for a fourth round pick in 2017. He becomes insurance for Matt Nichols, who replaced Willy as the starter and has led the Bombers on a six-game win streak.
Willy, 29, is in his fifth CFL season and third with Winnipeg. He has made 28 career starts, completing 513-of-781 passes (65.7 per cent) for 6,385 yards with 31 TDs and 24 interceptions. He began his CFL career with Saskatchewan in 2012 and was traded to Winnipeg on Feb. 6, 2014.
The well-travelled Glenn played five seasons in Winnipeg, leading them to the Grey Cup game in 2007. The 37-year-old has made nine starts for Montreal this season, completing 70.7 per cent of his passes while throwing for 2.547 yards, 13 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
