Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson gave his former CFL coach a little Twitter love on Thursday night.
Now one of the world’s biggest movie stars, Johnson was once a member of the Calgary Stampeders practice roster as an aspiring defensive lineman. The year: 1995.
Though he was released after just two months and didn’t appear in a game, then-Stampeders head coach Wally Buono seems to have had an impact on Johnson. It started when a CTV reporter mentioned Johnson’s past in a Tweet about the recently-released list of the top-paid actors.
Johnson – @TheRock – cut from @calstampeders practice roster in 1995, had $7 in his wallet back then. @CFL #yyc https://t.co/NuSJ6Emkoz

The Rock responded…
Yes sir. Real low point in my life. Coach Wally Buono was a real class act/mentor. I’ll always be grateful. #CFL https://t.co/t1iU8djF3f

And then the Twitter account for Buono’s current team, the B.C. Lions, reached out before Thursday’s game against the Redblacks…
We’re pretty lucky to have @GM_Brillo 👍🏽 Want us to send him a message @TheRock? He’s standing right here 😉 @CFL https://t.co/kdzUOpRBpR

Upon which The Rock offered up a hug.
Go give that man @GM_Brillo a big ass bear hug from me. He has no idea what cutting me did for my psyche and drive🙏🏾 https://t.co/2HcqQ6z6FW
