Zach Collaros is not expected to play Wednesday when the Hamilton Tiger-Cats travel to Winnipeg to face the Blue Bombers, Ticat head coach Kent Austin said Saturday.
“Right now, he’s not ready to go,” Austin said. “Right now, they plan is no.”
Collaros has been practicing with the club since July 11, when the Ticats took him off the six-game injured list. He is recovering from a torn ACL in his knee, suffered in Sept. 19, 2015 game against Edmonton.
“He’s really close. He’s doing really well, moving really well,” Austin said. “Talking to him and watching him, how he’s responded physically, you can tell he’s got a lot of confidence in where he’s at right now.”
Austin said the play of back up Jeremiah Masoli, who has led the team to a 3-2 record and is coming off a record-breaking performance that saw him complete 23 straight passes in a comeback win over Edmonton, is not a factor in the decision.
“When Zach is ready to play, he’ll play,” Austin said. “We have confidence in all our guys and Jeremiah has done awesome with his opportunity.”
