Quarterback Everett Golson has inked a deal with Hamilton, per CFL sources.
The six-foot, 200-pounder has been on the Tiger-Cats negotiation list since September 7, 2014. Golson played two seasons at Notre Dame before transferring and finishing his collegiate career at Florida State in 2015.
As a redshirt freshman, Golson helped guide the Fighting Irish to the BCS National Championship Game. He threw for 2,405 yards 12 touchdowns and six interceptions while rushing for 298 yards and six touchdowns that season. However, Notre Dame lost to Alabama 42-14 in the title game.
In 2014, Golson started 13 games for Notre Dame, passing for 3,445 yards 29 touchdowns and 14 interceptions while completing 60 percent of his attempts. He added 283 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground. Notre Dame beat LSU 31-28 in the Music City Bowl to cap off that campaign.
After graduating from Notre Dame, Golson transferred to Florida State. He started seven games for the Seminoles throwing for 1,778 yards 11 touchdowns and one interception. In a 22-16 upset loss to unranked Georgia Tech, Florida State’s first loss of the 2015 season after starting 6-0, Golson suffered a concussion, which derailed his final NCAA year.
The 23-year-old was not selected in the 2016 NFL Draft. He attended Indianapolis Colts and Philadelphia Eagles rookie mini-camps, but did not get offered a contract by either team.
Golson will join current starter Jeremiah Masoli, Jeff Mathews, rookie Jake Waters as healthy quarterbacks on the Ticats roster. As the face of the franchise, Zach Collaros continues to recover from an ACL injury suffered last September. And Jacory Harris is on the six-game injured list with a shoulder injury.
