The Hamilton Tiger-Cats fell to the Toronto Argonauts 26-16 in pre-season action on Saturday afternoon in the first CFL game played at BMO Field.
Ticat quarterback Jeremiah Masoli played the first quarter and finished 6-for-9 for 43 yards without a touchdown or an interception while Jeff Mathews threw two long bombs, including a 50 yard touchdown pass to Tiquan Underwood, but also tossed two interceptions in his quarter of work. Mathews finished 8-of-14 for 176 yards.
Jacory Harris and Jake Waters split time in the second half, Harris going 1-for-6 for four yards and the rookie Waters going 2-for-4 for zero yards.
A number of high profile Ticats watched the game on the sideline including defensive tackle Ted Laurent, linebacker Simoni Lawrence, running back C.J. Gable as well as receivers Andy Fantuz and Chad Owens. Luke Tasker held for field goals but didn’t see the field on offence.
In the battle for the kicking job, Brett Maher went 2-for-2 with a long of 38 yards and punted twice for a 43.5 yard net average. Cody Mandell handled things in the second half, going 1-for-2 while missing from 51 yards out. He punted twice for a 33.5 net average.
The Ticats will conclude the pre-season with a home date versus the Ottawa Redblacks on Friday.
