Riders dealt away neg list QB in Argos deal

University of Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield’s CFL rights are now held by Toronto.

Back on February 10, Saskatchewan made a deal with the Argos for offensive lineman Bruce Campbell, who since retired. That trade saw the green and white send a 2016 fourth round pick, 27th overall, which turned out to be McMaster fullback Declan Cross, and a negotiation list player – Mayfield – to the double blue.

The Sooner QB won the Big 12 Conference Freshman Offensive player of the Year in 2013 at Texas Tech. He sat out 2014 while transferring to Oklahoma. And in 2015 Mayfield threw for 3,700 yards with 36 touchdowns and seven interceptions while adding 405 yards and seven rushing scores on the ground. The Austin, TX native led the Sooners to the 2015 College Football Playoff. Mayfield earned second-team All-American honours for his efforts in 2015.
