American defensive back Emanuel Davis has agreed to terms with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, per CFL sources.
The 26-year-old Davis has played three seasons for the Ticats, starting 36 games. He had his best year in 2015, when he started all 18 games and registered five interceptions – including three returned for touchdowns – and 61 tackles while being named a CFL all-star.
Davis, who became a free agent in February, worked out for several NFL teams but ultimately decided to return to Hamilton. A popular figure with both players and coaches, Davis overcame significant adversity growing up in North Carolina to carve out a career in football.
Davis was one the best defensive backs available in free agency and his return is good news for the Ticats, who have lost several veteran players this winter: at 5-foot-11, 185 pounds, Davis can play either corner or halfback and has experience in the scheme favoured by Orlondo Steinauer.
Teammate Simoni Lawrence certainly seemed pleased by the news….
