This happened yesterday but… Well, I’m on vacation and desperately trying to recharge my batteries after the season. I always underestimate how bonkers the early part of the CFL off-season is going to be…
The Ticats re-signed three players and while they aren’t necessarily big names, I would consider them sneaky-good moves.
Canadian fullback CO Prime has been a solid contributor in his three seasons with the club and – just as importantly – he’s been remarkably durable. He didn’t miss a single practice in 2014, never mind a game, and played all 18 again this season.
Prime is also a interesting, well read guy of Haitian descent: we talk about books from time to time.
Canadian offensive lineman and long snapper Mathieu Girard was converted from defensive line before the season and made excellent strides in his rookie year. By the end of 2015 he was the snapper for field goals and played a little on offence in a back up role and in short yardage situations.
With long snapper Aaron Crawford set to become a free agent, Girard could be the guy next year. A key special teams player who could also back up on offensive line is a real asset. He signed a three-year deal.
American defensive end Troy Davis played in just one game last year – the East Final – but with the injury to Eric Norwood and pending free agency of Justin Hickman, could be a guy we see more of next season.
