The BC Lions trimmed their roster by 8 but added one Sunday and quarterback Travis Partridge was among those players released.
Also released were DB Torri Williams (I), DB Derrick Morgan (I), RB Brendan Bigelow (I) OL John Estes (I), OL Kaycee Ike (I), DL Alex King (I), Rec Reggie Jordan (I).
Partridge’s fate was sealed with a subpar performance in Calgary, combined with the promising showing of newcomer Jonathan Jennings. Partridge, who was with the Lions last season, simply didn’t show enough progression through training camp and his limited appearance in Calgary.
The Lions now have Travis Lulay, John Beck, Jennings and Greg McGhee on the roster. Neither Lulay nor Beck are 100% heading into the final week of the preseason.
Williams was also with the Lions last season and was likely beat out by newcomer Alex Tillman, who despite getting beat for touchdown Friday, played well.
Bigelow was brought in in part to his connections to Jeff Tedford at the University of California, Rickey Galvin (Washington State) and Damien Thigpen (UCLA) showed better in the coaches eyes.
With the release of Estes, it appears the Lions have zeroed in on international Jason Foster as their new centre on the offenisve line.
