• CFL VP of officiating Glen Johnson (pictured above with linebacker Taylor Reed) was at Ticats training camp today, part of the league’s ongoing effort to implement the new rules. I’ll have more on this later.

• I’ll get an official update shortly but word is the injury to defensive tackle Brian Bulcke isn’t serious and he could be ready for the start of the regular season. Another defensive tackle, Mike Atkinson, did a little more at practice today but still isn’t full go.

• first real scuffle of training camp in the morning session when middle linebacker Taylor Reed tackled running back C.J. Gable near the goal line during a team session. While there is plenty of contact during practices, taking players to the ground isn’t done. Receiver Bakari Grant took exception and a small scrum ensued. After things settled down, Ticats coach Kent Austin brought the entire defence together for a chat. There’s aggressive too there’s too aggressive.

• DB Brandon Stewart is taking third team reps as he works his way back from injury. He had a nice interception in the morning session.

• 2015 draft pick Preston Huggins is being moved from linebacker to fullback and is changing his number to 27. They need depth behind C.O. Prime.

• owner Bob Young made his first appearance at training camp today.
