What the loss of Brandon Banks means for the Ticats

Hamilton Tiger-Cats receiver Brandon Banks has been scratched for Saturday’s game against the Calgary Stampeders.

Banks, the team’s leading receiver with 1,033 yards. 69 catches and seven touchdowns, hurt his groin in last Saturday’s win over Toronto and did not practice for much of the week.

The loss of Banks means the team will be without their top two receivers – Jalen Saunders is gone for the year with a torn ACL – while also missing speedster Chris Williams.

With Banks out, look for the Ticats to start two Canadian receivers with Felix Faubert-Lussier – not American Shakir Ryan – stepping into his spot.

The loss of Banks will significantly impact the Ticats vertical game: of quarterback Jeremiah Masoli’s 19 completion off over 30 yards, nine have been to Banks with three to Saunders.

The Ticats will also be without starting field corner Jumal Rolle, who has a concussion. He’ll be replaced by Josh Johnson.

The Stamps will be without a significant contributor as well: defensive tackle Micah Johnson, who is tied for fourth in the CFL with six sacks, has been scratched.
