Raiders waive former Stampeders DB Shaquille Richardson

The Oakland Raiders have waived defensive back Shaquille Richardson.

Richardson signed a reserve/future deal with the Raiders in January.

During the 2017 CFL season, Richardson took the starting strong-side linebacker spot from Joe Burnett and produced 48 tackles four interceptions (one returned for a touchdown), one sack and one forced fumble.

The University of Arizona product was a fifth-round pick, 157th overall by Pittsburgh in the 2014 NFL draft, spending that season on the Steelers practice roster. He had stints with Chiefs, Cardinals, Titans and Panthers.

  1. He didn’t last long
Hardly critical; but it would be a nice addition to the Stamps already beyond human defense.

Hoping maybe he signs with the Riders

  3. Maybe the riders will sign him as a reciever.

  4. Most likely more former CFL guys with other teams to be in the same boat by Sept. 1st.

Salary cap. Not seeing Huff signing Richardson without releasing a very good prospect. He is a superb Sam linebacker but Stamps have McManis, M Harris, Thurman etc to go alongside Singelton. Canuck LB Mezzilara, Jones, and international Dwayne Norman. Someone has to go.

I guess the AAL now comes into play.

Yes, that is a factor now and could certainly be an option Richardson considers.

What I wonder about too are those set to become FA’s after this season. As players don’t officially become FA’s until after the AFF season starts (mid-February); will there be a rush of players entering FA requesting early release to sign in AFF???

  7. He was a beast in the Grey Cup. I could see Huff wanting him back and releasing someone else
