Winnipeg Blue Bombers quarterback Matt Nichols has been removed from the six-game injured list, an indication that he could be close to being healthy.
Nichols went down in practice with a knee injury on June 6 and head coach Mike O’Shea said he was expected to miss four-to-six weeks. Back up Chris Streveler has gone 1-2 with Nichols out of the line up.
The Bombers host the B.C. Lions on Saturday and held their first practice of the week on Tuesday but it was closed to the media (players on the six-game injured list cannot practice with the team.) By taking Nichols off the six-game early, the Bombers won’t see any salary cap savings from his stint on the injured list.
The 30-year-old is coming off his best season in the CFL throwing for 4,472 yards and 28 touchdowns.
